30 Nov Proposed $16 Million Boost For Royston Hospital, Hawke’s Bay
Acurity Health Group today announced plans for a $16 million expansion of Royston Hospital in Hastings.
The proposed re-development will feature two new operating theatres, expanded post-anaesthesia care unit, onsite radiology, day of surgery admissions and discharge facilities, and a redesigned reception and entrance area.
Acurity Health Group has lodged a Resource Consent application with Hastings District Council for the project.
Royston Hospital General Manager Denise Primrose said the project will deliver significant benefits to the Hawke’s Bay region.
“This will give Royston the capacity to cope with increased patient volumes, supporting our contracts with the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board and ACC along with privately insured and self-funded patients.
“The continuing investment is not only good news for future proofing Royston Hospital it also means that the region is more attractive to the surgical workforce and as a consequence, further increases the range of health services we can offer to the Hawke’s Bay community.
“A stream of recent investments at Royston has seen the upgrading to top- level endoscopy, sterilisation and surgical equipment. This significant investment to our facilities represents a major boost to the region’s only full service private surgical hospital which has proudly provided an elective surgery option to our community since 1921.”
Royston has a unique and long-term relationship with the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board and supports the organisation by providing a wide range of surgical services including hip and knee replacement and cataracts to local people, she said.
Subject to Resource Consent approval, construction work is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2018 with no disruption to existing services.
Dr Richard Grenfell, director of Acurity Health Group, said almost 50% of elective surgery in New Zealand is carried out by private surgical hospitals, providing critical support to the public health system and ensuring healthier New Zealanders.
“This investment demonstrates Acurity Health Group’s strong and long-term commitment to Royston and to the Hawke’s Bay community.”
